Cutting through the noise

27th May 2010

"My local newsagent had run out of FTs today so I spent my tube journey in people watching. iPods are now standard, iPhones and Blackberries are ubiquitous. One or two people using iPads as well to catch up on the latest Stieg Larsson.

Think of all that information going in and out of these things and into people's heads. And it's not just the people I share the District Line with. Politicians, regulators, journalists as well as wider publics are now overwhelmed with, well, 'stuff'. They make decisions based on a much more rich and complex base of information that comes at them from left, right and centre.

We really need to be sharp as communications professionals if we're to cut through all this noise and make sure our clients' messages are heard. Think creativity in the messages we use is as important, as well as making sure we're targeting those messages with ruthless accuracy."
