"As MPs return to their constituencies for the summer recess, it gives politicians, public affairs professionals and the wider public a chance to take stock of events from the last couple of months. The May general election and the formation of the coalition government have brought about rapid change in Westminster. Key to all of this has been the role of the Civil Service in facilitating the formation of the coalition. With the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, the Civil Service faced two parties who, at times, hold wildly different political positions. The subsequent Coalition Agreement and reforms in education and health are a testament to the success of the Civil Service in enabling this.
