Communications posts for August 2010

Better to stick your head in the sand?

"Successful corporate communications are always the product of an excellent communications plan.

However, it is surprising how many successful, large organisations have a tendency to adopt a hand to mouth approach to stakeholder communications – governed by reacting to events as they unfold.

So often, it is tempting to divorce strategy from activity, devising quick-hit action plans that neglect to construct a compelling and coherent narrative.

From our experience, a strong communications plan blends strategy with actions in order to develop a clear message, with a blueprint for both delivering the plan and measuring its success against pre-determined objectives.

Whilst the devil is so often in the detail, the reverse can be said for communications planning: a rigorous approach to detail gives an organisation clear direction, not only helping businesses to respond in a crisis but also equipping them to set their own agenda, ensuring that positive work receives positive recognition."
